1lb mixed vegetable (carrots, turnips or swede, parsnips)
1/4lb stewing steak
a level teaspoon national flour or oatmeal
salt and pepper
a knob of dripping or margarine
Wash & cut up vegetables
cut meat into small pieces and dip in flour or oatmeal, salt and pepper mixed together.
Heat fat in a large saucepan, brown meat on both sides, take it out, and put in layer of vegetables.
Put back the meat, cover with the rest of the vegetables, and add boiling water to cover.
Put on pan lid, simmer for 2 hours.
Put in scrubbed potatoes half an hour before serving
