The BIG LUNCH 2012…What will you be doing on June 3rd that’s as worth while?

The clever peeps behind the Eden project have come up with a fabulous idea that I’m dying to try/ join in called the BIG LUNCH. Its aim is to get as many neighbour, friends, families to have lunch together (like a street party) as possible on Sunday 3rd of June 2012.

I looove the idea of a street party, like they used to do in the 40’s/50’s. Apart from the fact that I’d get to practice some of the street party recipes (been hauding and waiting ever so long) I think it’s a wonderful way of getting to know your neighbours… and not just the ones that live either side of you!

People at a Big Lunch street party

"A Big Lunch can be anything from a few neighbours getting together in the garden or on the street, to a full-blown street party with food, music and decoration that quite literally stops the traffic."

This can be a great opportunity to go back to a time when streets and communities supported each other, it kept up community spirit and brought friendship and new family to those without anyone.[click here for more reasons to get involved]

You can also do it for charity [click here to go to the fundraising page of THE BIG LUNCH website]

You can get your FREE BIG LUNCH PACK HERE as well as sign up for the newsletter be the first to get your hands on the 2012 BIG LUNCH POSTER , a step by step guide on how to plan your lunch and advice on funding.

I am most definitely going to be sending of for one of the packs… what will you be doing on June 3rd that’s as worth while?

Be part of the revolution!

  1. Hi there! Have just stumbled upon your blog and love the rationing revisited idea! It’s great you posted about The Big Lunch too- thank you! Did you end up having one on your street and get to try out your 40’s recipes?

    • Sadly no…. We put it down to being a fairly new street and most of us living here are new to each other. But We’re not giving up… sooner or later they’re going to have to try my sponge cake hehehe!

  2. That’s a shame but don’t give up! One of the things we are working on for next year is telling the stories of how people have approached their neighbours, have got them involved and have got to know them as a result, so hopefully that will be useful to people.

We are always look for stories that are a bit different. I really like your blog and the ethos behind it so please do keep in touch to let us know if you get your neighbours out trying some sponge cake next year!
