Splatter doughnuts


481711_10152304321625632_1546391465_nThese are more like thick fritters…. but the kids loved them. They’re gorgeous with jam, honey or syrup…. or just rolled in a little sugar like we did

Ingredients:

  • 8oz plain flour sifted with 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1oz margarine, melted
  • 1oz sugar
  • 0.25 pint of milk or milk and water
  • 2oz cooking oil or fat to fry in

Method:

  1. Sift the flour and baking powder into a bowl
  2. Add the other ingredients and blend well together (no lumps!) until a very thick smooth batter
  3. Heat some fat/ oil until dancing hot and slowly add spoonfuls.  My frying pan isn’t too big so I added three separate GOOD tablespoons of batter… to make three doughnuts at a time
  4. The doughnuts are ready when you press down on them with a clean knife and they are firm and don’t ‘ooze’
  5. Lift the doughnuts to a kitchen towel or paper towel and let cool
  6. Once cool they’re ready to eat… or roll in sugar then eat
