Oatmeal soup

I didnt find this too bad at all, but I suppose it may not be to everyones taste. With the cold outside and…er…. the cold inside (achoooo) this was nice, warming and filling on a ‘fresh’ Yorkshire winters day. Sorry for the lack of images…. but my sad little laptop refuses to co-operate 😦


  • 1 oz margerine
  • 2 medium onions, grated or finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons oatmeal
  • 1 pint of cold water
  • salt and pepper
  • 1/2 pint of milk
  • 3 medium carrots, grated


  1. Heat the margarine in a pan, add the onions and cook for 5 minutes
  2. Blend the oatmeal with the cold water, tip into the pan and stir as the mixture comes to the boil; season lightly
  3. Simmer steadily for 30 minutes, stirring frequently, then add the milk and carrots and cook for a further 15 minutes
